What I do not do
This page exists so you do not waste a phone call, and so I am not talked into something I should not be doing. I am not a licensed contractor, electrician or plumber, and the list below is where that line sits.
Electrical
I replace existing light fixtures and ceiling fans on existing circuits. That is the whole scope.
- No panel work, new circuits, service upgrades or rewiring.
- No adding a fan where there is no fan-rated box.
- No troubleshooting a circuit that trips.
Call instead: a licensed electrician. If you are not sure which side of the line your job is on, send a photo and I will tell you straight.
Plumbing
Fixture swaps in owner-occupied homes only: a faucet, a toilet, a sink, a disposal.
- No plumbing at all in rentals or commercial property.
- No water heaters.
- No shower or tub valves, no repiping, no drain, waste or vent work.
- No sewer lines, no backflow devices, no gas work of any kind.
Call instead: a licensed plumber.
Structural, roof and mechanical
- Nothing load-bearing. No walls, beams, headers or footings.
- No structural framing.
- No roofing beyond about 100 square feet of repair.
- No HVAC and nothing involving refrigerant.
- No asbestos, and if I suspect it I stop and tell you.
Call instead: a general contractor, a roofer, or an HVAC contractor.
Why I am telling you this
Two reasons, and neither of them is modesty. Advertising work I should not be doing generates calls I have to turn down, which wastes your afternoon and mine. And a handyman who says yes to panel work is a handyman who is going to get something wrong in your house.
